Forty kilometers north of Doha, this former centre for pearl fishing attracts weekend picnickers to the shaded and sheltered Corniche and beach. Plenty of photo opportunities with the old fishing harbour and nearby mangroves, which are popular with ornithologists.
There is a small regional museum housed in the old police station that showcases different aspects of early life in Al Khor, as well as some archaeological discoveries from the Neolithic and Bronze ages. Details of opening times can be obtained by calling 472 1866.
Large public gardens to the north of Al Khor (signposted from the old North Road) also attract picnickers on weekends.
